From what I am reading there are 24 courses with their stations between Jerusalem and Jericho... but really don't understand the reason and purpose for its creation.

    Can you help Howie?

Hmm. I'm not sure what you mean by between Jerusalem and Jericho but I will try.

According to Chronicles 1 and 2, ( I will look for the specific verses if you need them) David established a schedule for the priests to do their service in the Temple that his son was to build. The Levitical population was divided into 24 teams or "courses," named after the sons of Levi. They included priests, musicians, gate keepers, porters, all the Temple functionaries.

Each course/team served for seven days, from Sabbath to Sabbath, twice a year. The Jewish calendar has almost 51 weeks. The remaining 3 weeks (24 x 2=48) were the three pilgrimage festivals (Passover, Weeks, Tabernacles) during which all the teams/courses were on hand.

That takes care of the 24 courses. Now about stations between Jerusalem to Jericho, I am at a loss. The only connection I can make to "24" is that 24 sounds like the approximate distance between the two in miles. There are no "stations" that I'm aware of, however.

Are you rolling the division of the priests into teams somehow with the distance between Jerusalem and Jericho?

I'm at a complete loss at this time Howie.  Let me look into it a little further and I will get back on your good questions.

Also... I will read with more detail what you have just shared and I might have other questions.

    Thank you, my friend.

Thanks Howie... no additional info necessary.

Confusion on my part came from info saying that a portion of the people to fulfill the courses came from Jericho.
