    Hello All!

This atheist—one who even despises the "holiday" season—does enjoy a few Christmas songs. Let see... I like...

    O Holy Night
    Silent Night
    The Little Drummer Boy
    Joy to the World
    God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

    ... and ...

    Snoopy's Christmas!!!!!!!!!
    Who doesn't?!!!!

What are your favorite "holiday" songs? Or music?

    Peace

Some of my fondest moments as a child include singing in the Christmas pageant at my Catholic school.

Your list pretty much covers my favorites also. I also like "White Christmas " & "The Christmas Song(Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)" written by a couple of Jews trying to muscle in on the festivities. The nerve  Angry  Grin

I LOVE christmas carols, especially Silent Night  or is it called Holy night?
There is a church near me who has an annual candlelit christmas carol service. It´s amazing, I go every year!

I've gotten tired of the same old, sappy, smarmy, songs.

A frind of mine says that the Jewish holidays never caught on because they  have no good songs... or good food. Most non Jews here only know two Jewish songs, Hava Nagila and that dradle ditty.

I often have hash browns for breakfast. Aren't those Yiddish? The potato comes from the New World so it can't be all that traditional.

Someone said to try those fish ball things that come in that strange looking liquid. I haven't worked up the nerve for that yet.

They are not quite the same as hash browns. Think fried potato pancakes.

Listening to Josh Groban's "O Holy Night" is still very moving.

Still doesn't sound too exciting. Might be good with bacon though.  Grin

My favorite is the rendition of "The Little Drummer Boy" performed by Bing Crosby and David Bowie (click here).  I always look forward to hearing it this time of year.

    Favorite holiday songs:

    Maoz Tzur

    Mi Yimalel?

    Oy Chanukah!

And of course some of the 'other classics':

    Es' ist Ein Ros

    Adeste Fideles

Riu, Riu, Shiu (by Alfonso el Sabio)

    Silent Night (in German)

And a few not quite so well known:

    The Holly and The Ivy

    The Wassail Carol

What Month was Jesus Born In?

I went to Catholic school for 12 years, and sung in choir for 8 of those 12 years. I have a few favorite songs.

    "Stille Nacht"
    "Adeste Fideles"
    "Deck the Halls"
    "The Holly and the Ivy"
    "O Holy Night"
    Adam Sandler's "Hanukkah Song"
    "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"
    "Here We Come A-Wassailing"
    "The Glouchester Wassail"
    and, admittedly
"Chicago Wassail", which I wrote myself, but I still love it.

    I love them all.

We use to do the following... you get about 4 or 5 people around midnight - go up to the house of someone you know... sing carols (with a guitar, bongos, two spoons, a fork and a grater, maracas etc) - wake them up and recruit another person - sometimes the house offered cake. hot chocolate etc..  By the time it is 5 in the morning - you have a crowd.

I say "use too".  Today I say - "it's your turn - I've paid my dues - come visit me and after keep going while I sleep".
