How to tell your parents you don't believe their religion: video.

    Sounds reasonable to me.

    Any comments?

    LOL

If your parents go to church regularly they are close minded.  Cheesy

If your religious parents abuse you call the authorities.  Shocked

If your parents threaten you, stop.  Huh

Uh ... conservatives are not renowned for being open-minded, are they?

No. I'm open-minded. But that doesn't mean I have to tolerate intolerance.

And only conservatives go to Church regularly, right?

Most of the regular churchgoers seem to be conservative. Why?

I'll note that "conservative" and "liberal" are never mentioned in this video.

I think the guy gave a pretty good overview, and good advice to kids in the situation. I think most of the advice can be applied to a change from one religion to another as well as becoming an atheist.

I am not as certain of the guy's definition of "close-minded" at the end of the video, but that wasn't the main focus. The guy gave signs to look out for, not absolutes.

Someone can be close-minded about religion and open-minded about other things. I think that was clear. Liberals can be close-minded as well as conservatives.

On the whole, good video. Thanks, Celsus. I wish I had seen it when I was 15.

The presumption that parents will abuse kids who tell them they no longer believe.

The fact is that SOME parents will. Therefore, he warns that IF they start acting in a threatening and abusive manner, that kids should STOP right then with the revelation of their religious beliefs or lack thereof, and that, if things get bad, they should seek assistance. Nowhere does he say that all parents will do this, nor even all parents he defines as "close-minded" will do this.

He didn't imply that ALL parents will abuse their kids in these cases. He simply advised the kids/teens about what to do IF their parents start abusing them because of their deconversion.

You should be able to understand this nuance?

Exactly. But don't confuse Coachbob with actual facts.
