My whole family is Roman Catholic, including two nuns (one deceased), two priests, and one former priest, who actually did resign from the priesthood because he fell in love with a woman. (They later married, and have been married since the early 70s.) My uncle said that the hardest thing for him was to be unable to preach God's word in the way he used to. He still felt called to that, but knew that marriage was also right for him.

He could have left the church and become Episcopalian or Lutheran (or Methodist, etc.) and still preached the word of God, as one of the former priests in my former parish did (he married a former nun, who also worked at my parish, and became a Lutheran minister). Hmmm -- like Luther himself did!

    That's the thing with sin..
You can fool the crowds but you can't fool God.
The thing that amazes me is they live in front of the world as tho they were clean before God.
But behind the curtain they are filthy as rags.

I sure hope he repents or confesses his sin before he dies.
Good thing he got caught before he died and has time to change his life.

    Corrigan,

I think the problem lies in the fact that he took a vow of celibacy. He knew what he was doing when he took the vow. and even by entering into a relationship with a divorced women, unless she had a decree of nullity, she isn't even really available to date, much less a priest.

I see the problem less about celibacy, and more about the fact that he was sneaking around and going against his vows.

    A decree of nullity?
    through the church?
She can't be considered divorced unless the church nullifies her marriage?

Like I keep saying, if he is capable of defying his vows to the Church over a woman, he is quite capable of defying his vows to his current lover - over a woman.

    women don't care deacon..
Some women believe they are so amazing no man would cheat on them.

Love is blind.. Lust is blind.. People aren't very smart when it comes to relationships, even the most intelligent man/womans heart is capable of doing the craziest things for the sake of another..
Look at the woman astronaut .. i forgot her name.. drove all that way in a depends undergarment to kill a woman out of jealousy.
    A married woman at that.
It probably doesn't seem worth it to her now. Wink

The hardest thing is to realize there's another woman and let him go..we think if we get rid of the other person it'll fix everything, not realizing he doesn't want you anymore.. period.

A man can cheat on his wife get caught marry the woman he was cheating with. and the woman accepts him as winning a battle.
I'm sure there's not much trust in that relationship.. maybe at first.. until the honeymoon is over and they are settled in.
    Then the mind wanders.

She cannot remarry in the Catholic Church unless there is a determination as to whether or not her first marriage was a sacramental.
That is what a decree of nullity is.

I have heard some christians say that if you were married to an unbeliever it couldn't of been blessed by God and therefore was nullified.
The bible does say if you became a believer and your spouse no longer wanted to be married to you.. you were able to walk away from that marriage.
Do you think that person is allowed to be remarried?
Such a tricky question.. some say yes and some say no.

     Cheesy

    women are vicious.. secretly.
Some might even date a priest just to see if they could take him from his priesthood..
They don't really want to keep him.. It just gives them ego points.
