Two things have always bugged me about Macs.  The first is a one-button mouse.  The second is that I enjoy building my own pcs from scratch, and Apple doesn't play that way.  I'll never understand why Apple doesn't make Mac OS for regular Intel/AMD machines, a poor biz practice imo.  Otherwise, Mac is pretty awesome.

Ubuntu installs on either regular Intel/AMD machines or Mac Intel machines (and probably the older Motorola Macs too), so you can use whichever hardware you like.

I love my Apple now though. The only downside there is that they're still more expensive Sad

That's because you're paying for a product that... um... works properly. Smiley

Well, this is all very interesting but, for the simple-minded computer person like me who knows only the very basics, and who is lucky to be able to send email at all, the bottom line is that when I would type beliefcorner.com into the search engine, all I got was a blank page with this one guy's picture.  There was no way to get into the forums.

The only way that you can see me type this or post in the forums at all is because allthegood very kindly sent me a link, which I bookmarked and now use.

Since there must be other people out there who might possibly want to join this site, and who are not friends or acquaintances of allthegood, I find this all very puzzling.

    BTW:
Speaking of having pathetic computer skills, I am wondering how people are posting avatars here, because I haven't a clue how it's done.  If somebody would tell me how to do it, I would be very grateful.  But, you have to give very, very simple, clear directions not using too much computer language.

Step 1: Click on the word "profile" at the top of the page.

Step 2: Under Modify Profile, there is a line that says forum profile information.  Click on that.

Step 3:  Now you will have to decide if you want to use a picture you saw on the web, or one that is on your computer.  Either way, you will need to tell the computer where the pic is.  You can click on personalized pic and get one that has been preloaded to the site, or you can click on I have my own pic, and give the computer a url (where on the internet it is located) or you can tell it I will upload my own picture and tell it where on the computer the photo is.

Step 4: Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on change profile.

    Does that help?

    1. Apple mouses have TWO buttons now!! (it just looks like one but you can click left and right) That was indeed VERY annoying!
    2. The advantage of Apple is, in my opinion, that the hardware and the OS come from the same corporation = less incompatibilities and problems.

Finally!  I work with Windows all the time so I don't get to see many Macs.

Very true, that's a good point.

My family still has old Vic-20s and Commodore 64s which we use because of the cool games we played on them back when we were children!

AWESOME!  Wow, the C64 was the first computer I ever owned... ah, memories...  And I remember the Vic-20 too... 20 KB of RAM!  Made the C64 with its 64 KB seem so sophisticated (and it used 47 of it for the OS as I recall), lol!  Amazing that yours still function after all these years!  The smaller and faster they make chips, the sooner they burn out.

I totally remember that game, TED, and others like it even earlier on the C64.  It was pretty boring to me as I recall... I, like most young boys (and many adult men), preferred flight simulations that allowed me to bomb, shoot and destroy things. Cheesy  In hindsight, I believe Flight Simulator (and its descendants) was based on the realistic simulation of actual planes and terrain, which is impressive for that time.

    Ah, those were the times!

One of my first games was Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of Lounge Lizards (in black & white on my Atari)  Grin

That's also probably where I learned most of my English at the time!!! Wink

    Sacrificialgoddess -
Many thanks for the info on how to download a picture!  I think even I with my limited skills can figure it out.  If not, I'll ask my daughter who was a high school computer teacher, or as a last resort my husband.  But he is always saying that I'll never learn unless I understand the basic principles, and he doesn't like me always writing down instructions.  He is very disgusted when he sees all the notes I have here next to the computer telling me how to do this or that.

One of my biggest successes was actually learning how to post a link.
